Starwood Offers 10,000 PointsGood news from Starwood regarding the Clear bankruptcy. They are offering 10,000 Starpoints if you purchased a Clear membership through the Starwood trial offer. A week ago Dr. Pointdexter posted about how Clear was going out of business. This is a blow to those who paid up to the $199 in membership fees.

Email from Starwood (Thanks to Sandra)

We are disappointed to announce that Clear, a company that helped to expedite travelers quickly through airport security lines, has ceased operations as of Monday, June 22, 2009.

If you’re an SPG® member who purchased a subscription to Clear after accepting the SPG three-month free trial offer, we would like to credit your account with 10,000 Starpoints® for this unforeseen inconvenience.

Please fax proof of your purchase (your Clear receipt or a credit card statement with the Clear/Verified Identity Pass, Inc. charge) along with your SPG number to 519-633-5865 before July 30, 2009 to receive your Starpoints. We will verify your Clear enrollment was processed through the Starwood Preferred Guest promotional site, then credit the Starpoints within 7 business days from receipt of eligible proof.

Please don’t hesitate to call your SPG Customer Contact Center at 888-625-4988 if we can assist you in any way. We look forward to welcoming you at one of our hotels soon.

Bottom Line

The 10,000 Starpoints which are often valued at around .02 or .03 per point would equate to 200 to 300 dollars. Not a bad conciliatory prize. Be sure to contact Starwood before July 30th, 2009 to claim your 10,000 Starpoints.
