Hotel and Check In

We decided to explore a different part of Mallorca for the last few days of our stay on the island and decided on the Castillo Son Vida.  So after a quick ~30 minute drive from the Hilton Sa Torre (see map here) we arrived at the Castillo Son Vida.  The Castillo Son Vida is part of the Starwood Luxury collection and is a category 6 hotel.  We had four free nights from the Starwood summer free weekend night promotion, and since the Castillo was a category 6 requiring 20,000 points we used 2 of the certificates here (Westin Madrid is category 5, Marques de Riscal is a category 6).

The hotel is situated on the hillside overlooking city.  Driving up to the hotel you’ll see the Sheraton Mallorca and the golf course that the Castillo Son Vida and Sheraton look out over.  To get to the hotel you pass through a large gate and end up at a small round about for the entrance.

The hotel has a pool overlooking the golf course and terrace overlooking the city.  We spent most of our 2 days by the pool or exploring the city and the evenings on the terrace taking in the great views with drinks.  One evening there was a wedding reception on the lower terrace.

Room

We were taken to our upgraded suite and given the tour, it was noted that Aristotle Onassis had stayed in our suite.  On the table in the living room was a Platinum welcome amenity of fruit, water and champagne.  You enter the room into a hallway with a long set of closets to the left.  There is a door leading to the bathroom to the right.  At the end of the hallway you enter the living room of the suite and the bedroom is to the right.  The pictures may not show how nice the room felt, but overall we were very impressed with this room.

Bottom Line

The Castillo Son Vida was the unexpected surprise for our trip.  We thought it may bother us that we were not near the beach (The St Regis Mallorca has beach access) but  we really enjoyed our time at the hotel.  Using the 2 free weekend certificates instead of points was a big bonus as well.
