There was some confusion and difficulty with Citi registering credit card holders with the 10x American Airlines miles with Amazon spending promotion. We are happy to share that at least one reader had the promotion added to his account.

Earlier this month we shared that Citi is offering 10x American Airlines miles with participating purchases at Amazon through September 30, 2012. A number of you shared frustration with getting this promotion even though you were a Citi card holder. It turns out there is at least one success story. See below to understand how Henry82 had the promotion added to his account.

The Amazon.com offer is valid for purchases billed as Amazon.com transactions. Electronics purchases are transactions made at stand-alone merchants that sell, repair or lease a wide variety of electronic goods, including computer hardware. Office supply purchases are transactions made at merchants that sell a wide variety of office and school supplies and paper goods. Department store purchases are transactions made at large stand-alone merchants selling a general line of merchandise from departments that usually have separate checkout counters. Apparel purchases are transactions made at stand-alone merchants that sell clothing, furnishings and accessories geared toward a specific audience. Citi does not determine whether merchants appropriately identify the purchases (including online, catalog, mail order and telephone purchases), but Citi does reserve the right to determine which purchases qualify for this offer. Bonus miles awarded for each offer are subject to a maximum of 2,500 additional miles.

Bottom Line

If you spend at least $250 at Amazon you can make out the 2,500 AA mile earning cap with this promotion.

So if you like shopping at Amazon, have a Citi® Platinum Select® / AAdvantage® Visa Signature® Card or other Citi card, it may be worth sending a secure message to see if you can have the promotion added to your account.

  1. I sent a secure message this morning, with no luck. I got the following reply:
    “Thank you for your inquiry.

Our records do not indicate you were solicited for the offer you mentioned. We occasionally solicit American Airlines AAdvantage® members for special offers. If you are an AAdvantage member, it is possible that you will be solicited in the future.”

    Worth a shot I guess!
