Starwood Points Stasher Confession – Year Review Of Points Earned And Points Burned

I admit it, I stashed away some Starwood points this year from hotels stays. But I’m saving for the future, right? SPG came out with a really cool year end review tool this year that rivals the typical quicken books review of credit card spend.

SPG Year In Review

The details from the SPG year in review tool will determine if you are a points horder or a points whore. So far, it looks like I need an intervention for my points hording.

SPG Platinum Year Overview

SPG Points Earned

I’m above average, but below my expectations. I’ve earned 113,253 StarPoints this year off of 53 stays and 61 nights, far below my 2011 record from a great strategy. I made Starwood Platinum status (along with Hyatt Diamond and Marriott Platinum) but I only earned 113k StarPoints. Weak! Did you do better?

SPG Points Burned

Things didn’t look good on the redemption side either. I redeemed a total of only 64,000 StarPoints in 2013. My stays at non-SPG properties didn’t help in this area at all including stays at the: St Regis Atlanta (paid), Waldorf Astoria Boca Raton, Hyatt Regency Clearwater, Hyatt Andaz 5th Avenue New York, Marriott East Side Hotel New York, Hyatt 48 Lex New York, Hyatt Regency Philadelphia, W Hotel Times Square (paid), and a yet to be disclosed (but I can be persuaded to) non-point earning hotel in Singapore.     SPG Platinum Year Points Redeemed

Bottom Line

This year was very very good to us. Baby Weekly Flyer joined our flying wolf pack and we’ve earned tons of points and miles to be used for a rainy day.

How did your year in Starwood StarPoints stack up for you? You can check your year in review through the SPG link here. So are you a Starwood StarPoints hoarder or StarPoint earning and burning whore?

  1. This would be helpful if you told us where this “year in review tool” is. I can’t find it at SPG – was it an email or am I just overlooking it on the SPG site?

  2. I received this:
    The stats have been tallied and the results are in: you’re officially an SPG® Nights Hawk

  3. Hi Avi – Nights Hawk, wow, that sounds elite. Congratulations! Does that mean you had more than 75 one-night stays in a hotel? Care to share more details so we can discover these new “elite” levels?

  4. Actually, I don’t even have 75 nights (yet), let alone 75 stays. My current “score” is 28 stays and 73 nights, with most of those nights coming @ the Sheraton Suites in Tucson. Yay. I’ll get to 75 with a New Year’s eve stay @ the St. Regis Bal Harbour. I have no idea why I’m a Nights Hawk vs. a Points Stasher.

  5. It stats on the page, the Biggest SPG Flight Redemption 870,000 Starpoints for two Business from Los Angeles to Rome. Why in the world would someone use that many starpoints for two business class tickets???

  6. I was also a Night Hawk. I had 116 nights (it only shows through 11/30/12) I will finish at 150. I earned 327,774+ points and redeemed 90k (through 11/30/12) I am redeeming another 50k in December. I stayed at Starwood hotels in 9 countries.

    @Carl – there’s a tiny note somewhere that it’s only through 11/30/12
