Get 4x Fuel Points And 5% Cash Back On Gas At Kroger
I was excited to see that Kroger brought back the 4x fuel points for gift card purchases this month which goes nicely with the Chase Freedom 5% cash back offer. The 4x fuel points is only valid from March 3 through March 30, 2013. This is making gas purchases a little less painful at the pump!
The Bottom Line
Today I purchased $250 of Target gift cards which I will use to by groceries and baby items that I would have purchased anyway. I received 1,000 Kroger fuel points which provided $1 off per gallon up to 35 gallons of gas = $35 savings!
I used a card pay for the gift cards that I have been trying to hit spending threshold with and then I used my MasterCard Chase Freedom card to pay for the discounted gas which will get me 5% cash back on my Chase card!

How do you maintain the Ultimate Rewards if you downgrade from Chase Sapphire Preferred? Can one still have their Ultimate Rewards by just having Chase Freedom? Thanks for your answer.

Some Krogers have a gas station, you get bonus on the gas purchase only.

Just switched my Sapphire (already downgraded from CSP) to a Freedom. Did not know that I could do this until I read your post. Thanks! I’ll be applying for the CSP Mastercard in about 6 months so I am very eager to see how your application goes.
Depending on how Kroger has ‘coded’ their gas station, it’s possible it won’t be recognized as a gas station by the credit card companies. I’m not sure about Chase, but I’ve had this problem at several Kroger gas locations with my Costco AMEX.
If only Kroger sold Vanilla reloads 🙂

Kroger in DFW area are not participating in the 4x promo, only 2x, just tried it. 4x was last month. Also in January I used my Freedom card for gas at Kroger, it showed up as “Kroger Fuel #xxxx” but didn’t get the 5x points. Sent secure message to Chase – waiting for a response.
Just got a response from Chase. “Kroger Fuel” does count as gas station. But surprisingly some “Starbucks #xxxx” got categorized as “Quick Payment Service – Fast Food Restaurants” – no bonus and some Starbucks did get the bonus.
