For those of you that don’t know about Economy Comfort on Delta it means a few things. More space and free drinks. Complimentary spirits are served in Economy Comfort on transcontinental (JFK-LAX/SF) and all international flights. We enjoyed Economy Comfort on an adult getaway to Aruba and back from Aruba last year and then again with Baby Weekly Flyer to St Thomas for New Years. The extra space is definitely worth it on long trips.

Gold & Silver Discounted Economy Comfort

Normally, Delta Diamond and Platinum Medallions members as well as non-elite customers with a Y, B or M fare class ticket can select economy comfort for free. Gold and Silver Medallion members only get a discount. So this promotion is really targeted to people without Delta status but like to enjoy a little more comfort on their flight.

The normal discounted prices for Gold and Silver elite members are discounted as follows:

Gold Medallions

  • Receive Economy Comfort at no charge on Domestic travel
  • Receive Economy Comfort at no charge on domestic travel and 50% off on international travel
  • Discounts are applied to the published one-way fee

Silver Medallions and their travel companions

  • Receive a 50% discount for domestic travel
  • Receive a 25% discount for international travel
  • Discounts are applied to the published one-way fee

The Economy Comfort sale offer did specify it applied to only select routes to Asia and Europe but DID NOT specify which routes the discount applied. It may not be published due to competitive reasons but I’ve requested the detail from Delta and will update this post when I can track it down.

Bottom Line

Economy Comfort can be a real benefit on long haul international flights and transcontinental domestic flights. We really enjoyed Economy Comfort on our adult getaway to Aruba and back from Aruba last year. This discount makes it just a little more affordable on “select” routes for a limited basis.

If you are a Gold or Silver Medallion member and value complimentary upgrades to First Class or Economy Comfort, you can consider earning extra Medallion Qualifying Miles to gain Delta Platinum status for higher priority upgrades and complimentary upgrades to economy comfort. One way to get 10,000 bonus MQMs is to consider signing up for the Delta Reserve card or the Delta Platinum SkyMiles card. You’ll have the opportunity to get status faster with free MQMs that come with the Platinum (5,000 MQMs) and Delta Reserve (10,000 MQMs) cards.
