There is still time to enter our Gogo Giveaway that ends Friday this week. Considering we are giving away 3 Gogo one-time use passes, we thought we’d share a sampling of Gogo internet speed tests from several Delta flights. Below you’ll see the sample internet speed test for each route mentioned.
UPDATE: Delta is currently upgrading planes to Gogo’s ATG-4 system. The plane’s system could have impacted the results because some planes are on the new system and some are on the old. The upgrade process will be completed by the end of the year.
Aruba To Atlanta
The Gogo wifi kicks on around the Bahamas on the flight from Aruba to Atlanta.
The download speed on this Sunday flight was .31 Mbps and the upload speed was .21 Mbps. Much lower than I had expected for this heavy leisure route.
Atlanta to Philadelphia
This Sunday night flight operated by a MD88 offered download speed of .50 Mbps and an upload speed of .19 Mbps. The download speed was much better than I had expected for this route.
Philadelphia to Atlanta
This Thursday night flight is a prime time business flight. Frequent business travelers are busy trying to finish up the day’s work over a happy hour so they can spend some time at home on Friday. This Thursday night flight also operated by a MD88 offered download speed of .39 Mbps and an upload speed of .12 Mbps.
Seattle to Atlanta
This week day flight operated by a 757-200 offers great views of Seattle.
But the internet speed leaves something to be desired. It offered an atrocious download speed of .08 Mbps and an upload speed of .17 Mbps.
Bottom Line
It appears that the internet speed is heavily dependent on the number of users online at any given time.
Given the examples above, it appears the Thursday night flight operated by the same plane as the Sunday night flight had a big decline in internet speed due to the number of business travelers on the flight.
