Hilton Honors Gold status has come through for us in the past with complimentary upgrades and free breakfast (with champagne) at the Hilton Seychelles Northolme Resort & Spa, or complimentary daily buffet breakfast and discounted overwater bungalow upgrades at the Hilton Moorea. I’ve let my Hilton Gold status lapse in the past year or so, but thanks to a credit card I already had in my wallet, I’m now back up to Hilton Gold status and can enjoy all the benefits along with it. I’ll share my experience requesting Hilton Gold status through the Business Platinum Card from American Express OPEN card I had in my wallet, another card that gives the benefits, as well as my favorite benefits of Hilton’s Gold status.

This past year’s Hilton Devaluation caused me to forgo pursuing Hilton Gold status even though there were several methods readily available in the past. That is, until I found out that the Business Platinum Card from American Express  which I already had in my wallet added this as a benefit to their card. This card offers what I consider a generous welcome bonus, Select Airline club lounge access, a $200 airline fee credit when enrolled with a qualifying airline, a Global Entry fee credit, Priority Pass Select membership which allows you to access other airline clubs.

The Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve Card also provides complimentary gold status along with two free weekend nights, no foreign transaction fees, anniversary bonus weekend night, and the ability to earn 10 points per dollar spent at Hilton hotels.

My Experience Requesting Hilton Gold Status

I simply called the number on the back of my card, selected option 0 and inquired about the new Hilton Gold status benefit. The request and discussion went something like:

Weekly Flyer: Hi, I’m a Platinum card holder with American Express, I’d like to request the Hilton Gold benefit be added to my Hilton account. Can you help?

Agent: Yes, I’d be glad to help. The Hilton Gold benefit is something new we’ve added. Would you like to go ahead and sign up for that today?

Weekly Flyer: Yes

Agent: All I need to start is your number Hilton Honors number in order to provide

Weekly Flyer: My number is WF001 xxx-xxx-xxx

Agent: Thank you. Just need to read you a disclosure {amex will provide information with the program}. Do you consent?

Weekly Flyer: Yes

Agent: Great. The system will likely take 7-10 business days to update with your new Gold status. Thank you for being a Platinum card member.

Weekly Flyer: Great, thank you for your help.

Bottom Line

Hilton Gold status has it’s benefits like complimentary upgrades, free breakfast and complimentary in room internet.

Members can earn the status the hard way by completing 20 stays or 40 nights in a calendar year, or simply request the status through your Business Platinum Card from American Express OPEN or enjoy it through your Citi® Hilton HHonors™ Reserve Card.

This new benefit for the Platinum card is great. I already found value out of the club lounge access, airline credit and other benefits, so this new benefit will help keep the card in my wallet and not tempt me to cancel like Mrs. Weekly Flyer tried to do (but instead received 25,000 bonus points).

  1. I got an email today about now getting Gold with my Amex hh Surpass card with no annual spend requirement. It said no need to enroll (so I would assume no need to call).
