Weekly Flyer On His Birthday: Ah, gee, thanks! Alaska Airlines…Just what I wanted…

Alaska Airlines is always invited to my birthday party. And in the past, they’ve always given a nice gift. They are actually great at recognizing their member’s birthday. Over the past few years I’ve received numerous discount offers during the month of my birthday from Alaska Airlines, Delta and even AirTran.

But this year Alaska Airlines decreased their birthday gifts to a 5% discount on a qualifying flight.

How To Get 5% Off Your Flight

  • First, make sure your birthday is noted in your Alaska Airlines

Bottom Line

Alaska Airlines birthday presents to members have gone down from a more generous 10% discount in years past to a 5% discount this year. Maybe they are conserving cash to battle Delta in the Seattle market. Who knows, but 5% off is better than full price.

  1. It is always nice to have one’s birthday remembered. That said, a 5% discount on mostly high-end fares is not much of a ‘present.’ When coupled with the page-long list of T&Cs, I guess I’m not seeing any real benefit in this promotion. Thanks AL, I’ll take a PASS and call this one a FAIL. To be fair, AL is not alone here. Most of the major carriers continue their short term targeted promotions, in the last year they seem to have lost any significant value to the participating flyer.
