The Old Edwards Inn & Spa is located on main street in charming Highlands, North Carolina. The climate in the plateau of North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains offers cool nights in the spring summer and fall. So it is no surprise people flock here to get away for a nice relaxing weekend or host a formal wedding party at the Inn.

Our visit to Highlands was to attend the wedding of our good friends. So we began to look at properties to stay at which ranged from the Old Edwards Inn & Spa to a private residence. We ended up settling on a private residence but knew we had to visit the famed Old Edwards Inn Spa.

I called ahead and made reservations for the 2nd and 4th day of our stays. If interested in visiting the spa, make sure you get reservations in advance as the spots fill up quickly during peak season.

The inside of the property gives it the feel of a high mountain lodge mixed with a boutique hotel. The hallway led to a large open and comfortable living room.

The living room was a great place to relax over a book or grab a mid-afternoon snack.

The Spa Café Culinary Cocktail menu was delivered shortly after we grabbed a table. I ordered the Sunset Rock while Mrs. Weekly Flyer ordered a Chardonnay. Both were delicious.

After ordering a cocktail, we sat by the window and enjoyed the quiet zone until our appointed time.

There is also a nice outdoor patio you can enjoy if the weather is warm enough.

I had requested that the attendants call us in to the locker rooms about 30 minutes before our appointment. That way we could get comfortable and even take a quick dip in the hot tub before our appointment.

The hot tub was in a room next to the sauna. They keep it just warm enough and the room is very well appointed.

The actual spa treatment rooms were very fancy. A short walk down a hallway from the locker rooms and you’ll find yourself in the oval spa room entrance area.

The oval entrance room had ceiling lighting and a chandelier. Each room door had the door knob in the center of the door which is just another detail that sets this place apart.

The spa rooms were comfortable and most importantly quiet.

Mrs. Weekly Flyer and I had set apart some time to enjoy the quiet area after our appointments. We picked up a few blankets and enjoyed some time in lounge chairs next to the water feature.

Several hours had gone by since we had arrived at the Old Edwards Inn & Spa, but we wouldn’t have noticed. We were too busy forgetting all of our aches and worries. This Spa was a fantastic way to spend 1/2 of a day. But it had to end at some point. We had to go.

We had another appointment, with a bottle of 2002 Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque Champagne waiting for us by the fire.

Bottom Line

I’d highly recommend the Old Edwards Inn & Spa along with a visit to Highlands, North Carolina. This was our first visit to the area and we will definitely return for the great golfing, weather and laid back environment.

  1. I LOVE Highlands. I especially like chatting with the people who work at Highlands Hiker. They’ve got great recommendations for more outdoor adventurous things to do while in the area.
