Earlier this year, I wrote about the American Express Platinum Update On American/US Airways Lounge Access and how the card will no longer provide access to US Airways Clubs or American Airlines Admirals Clubs starting March 22, 2013.

I called American Express about this and expressed frustration and the agent was more than happy to give me an additional $100 airline fee reimbursement for American Airlines/US Airways to help with the lack of their lounge access.

However, I just received email confirmation today about this and below is what the email said:

We are writing to confirm your enrollment in the $100 statement credit offer for American Airlines and US Airways. With this offer, you can receive up to $100 in statement credits after you make eligible purchases for incidental fees at American Airlines and US Airways using your enrolled Card.

Eligible incidental fees include:

  • Membership Fees in the Admirals Club program and US Airways Club
  • Admirals Club lounge One-Day passes and US Airways Club day passes
  • Checked baggage fees (including overweight/oversize)
  • Itinerary change fees
  • Phone reservation fees
  • Pet flight fees
  • Seat assignment fees
  • In-flight amenity fees (i.e. beverages, food, pillows, blankets, headphones)
  • In-flight entertainment fees (excluding wireless internet, which is managed and charged by a separate company

This offer ends on December 31, 2014. Please allow between two and four weeks after you make an eligible purchase for the statement credits to appear on your account.

This offer is in addition to the $200 Airline Fee Credit benefit already included with your Card. This benefit provides up to $200 a year in statement credits when eligible incidental fees are charged by a qualifying airline that you select to your eligible Card Account.

Bottom Line

I still believe the American Express Platinum Card card provides a lot of benefits including Delta Sky Club access (just for the cardholder), Priority Pass Select, Air Space Lounge Access, and now access to the new American Express Centurion lounges which are currently located at LAS and DFW, with more to come soon including LGA and SFO.

  1. Also got $500 offer for doing this. Am itching to test the giftcard thing to see if it works. Anyone with experience on this?
