The Premier Miles & More World MasterCard® offers card members an annual companion ticket. There are some nuances to the companion ticket, and if the circumstances are right, it can offer significant value above the annual fee of the card, which is only $79 and is waived for Senator and HON Circle Members. Here’s the details:

Companion Ticket Is Good For

  • Economy Class Companion Ticket
  • Must be booked in H/Class or higher

How To Qualify For Companion Ticket

Example Pricing For Companion Ticket

As an example, if you consider a coach class ticket in H fare or higher and the pricing comes out to $1,920.20 with taxes and fees. But only the airfare portion of the ticket is covered by the companion ticket. So how much is that? Well, on this ticket the airfare is $616 each way. That’s a total of $1,232 in value assuming you would have purchased an economy class ticket for the second person anyway.

In this case you’d come out ahead if you use the companion ticket net taxes and fees. But it all depends on your circumstances.

  1. Seems like you are failing to give the real cost of the ticket while touting benefits to a card you get a referal fee to.

A good example would be to show what the ticket costs for 2 passengers, lowest available fare, then go ahead and do the Companion comparison:

Lowest fare $1100 so 2200 for 2 people
    Or
1900+700 taxes and fees equalling $2600 for a free companion ticket, ie more expensive.

Only time those LH companion tickets are worth a damn is on a last minute ticket purchase.

  2. Along the lines of the above post. I see limitations on using the companion ticket but also a few ways it could work for me. I do tend to travel last minute so H fares are not uncommon for me. Would give me a chance to bring another along cost effectively. Another opportunity might be high season where tickets across the pond tend to be around $1500 upwards. I am wondering about B class fares which are upgradable. A companion ticket be upgraded with miles? Perhaps I am confusing something here?

  3. I assume can still credit the revenue ticket and get UA miles (if not PQD). Dowe know if the companion ticket earns miles?
