Earlier this week, I took part in Delta’s promotion which was offering 2,000 bonus MQM’s and 2,000 bonus SkyMiles after your first round-trip flight, which I wrote about a while back.

I can always use the MQM’s and decided that I would try to find a cheap mileage run for a same day turn from NYC. I ended initially booking LGA-DEN with 5 hours in Denver and then a same day return from DEN-LGA.

The terms of this promotion were kind of unclear as whether you’d earn only the 2,000 bonus MQM’s and the double MQM’s on your first flight or just the 2,000 bonus MQM’s. It turns out that you only earn the 2,000 bonus MQM’s on the first trip and then you’ll earn the double MQM’s after your first flight.

With that in mind, I ended up same day confirming and switched to LGA-MSP-DEN and then DEN-LGA on the return. I ended up paying $238 and earned around 3,200 MQM’ plus the additional 2,000 MQM’s for a total of 5,200 MQM costing around 4.5 cents per mile which was decent.

My first flight from New York (LGA) -Minneapolis was on a A319 aircraft and luckily I got upgraded at the gate to First Class.

Once in Minneapolis, I decided to stop at Pei Wei and have a quick lunch during my 2 hour layover.

My next flight from Minneapolis to Denver was on a MD-90 and again on this flight I got upgraded to First Class at the gate.

Nice roomy seats on the MD-90.

Does anyone else mileage run for the drinks? 😉

Once in Denver, my flight back to New York (LGA) was about 45 minutes late, but we were able to make up some of the time.

Unfortunately, this flight had quite a few Medallions onboard despite the cabin being about half full, so I ended up roughing it in Economy Comfort.

Overall, this mileage run was quite successful as I only had one day, so I was able to get in these flights in the same day and make it back to New York in the evening. I earned 5,200 MQM’s and 8,700 SkyMiles including the 2,000 bonus and Platinum Medallion 100% bonus.

Is anyone else taking aadvantage of this Delta promotion for the double MQM’s from LGA and 2,000 bonus MQM’s on the first flight?

  1. Gol, Delta partner in Brazil had a major fare mistake today. If you were in the brazilian website, showing the prices in BRL all international flights (operated by delta) were crazy cheap.
Im talking about 250 usd from the U.S to Brazil, roundtrip.
The glitch started at 3am and was fixed arround 9am.
Gol is not going to cancel the tickets, who managed to buy will fly.
