There are a lot of things frequent flyers take for granted, complimentary upgrades, free nights in hotels, and more points than you can use. So it’s easy to take things for granted. And I know plenty of frequent and infrequent flyers that do.

Avoid Simple Mistake That Costs Points And Miles

Make sure to register for promotions as soon as they come available. The registration often ends well before the promotion period ends, and if you don’t register, you won’t earn the promotion bonus. It’s that simple really. Just sign up!

For example, SPG Members can earn up to up to triple Starpoints through July 31, 2014 with SPG’s Earn Away promotion. Even if you don’t think you’ll use it, you should still register for the promotion.

I had a friend once who forgot to signup for SPG’s discount award promotion offer, then when came time to book the award at a discount didn’t qualify for the discounted award price and got mad at SPG.

Bottom Line

The hotel program promotions can be very valuable to your points balance, but you have to register for the promotions. Don’t be like my frequent flyer friend who missed out on the promotion. Register for promotions before the registration period ends. That way, you won’t miss out on the bonus points when / if you stay at the hotel.
