One of my readers sent me an email about an interesting item they saw posted on eBay. It’s for Hyatt Diamond Status for 60 Days, and they are asking $88 for it.

According to the listing, once you buy this you would have to email your Hyatt Gold Passport number and account number to the seller who will somehow get you trial Diamond status for 60 days.

At first I thought the seller would just send in a challenge, but when looking at their feedback they have also sold Starwood Preferred Guest Plus status before so this could be someone working for a company in which Hyatt offers challenges to, yet this person is trying to abuse the system.

Personally, I would never buy something like this on eBay since it’s against the program rules but also there is no guarantee that the status would last for all 2 months if Hyatt found out and shut down the account.

However, it appears that 7 of these have been sold so far and 10 are still available. Here’s the link to the eBay item.

  1. He is selling you a diamond trial it seems looking at the details. I wonder what he dies if the buyer doesn’t have status with another hotel.

  2. Smart guy. For $88 he uses your name and account. Then surely gins up a document showing hotel stays and status in another program. And likely uses fake email so he can’t be tracked. Could make thousands pulling this scam.

  3. I wonder what happens if the buyer has had the Diamond trial previously…it’s supposed to be one time/account.

  4. I bought one of these for SPG Gold a few years ago. After purchasing it, the seller tried to get some of my personal information which I wouldn’t give. As a result, they ended up making me a new account which I merged with my current account.

Looking into the account settings, the eBay seller had set up my new SPG Gold account so that it would automatically transfer out my SPG points into his BA account!! This person was using this as a way to skim points!! Buyer beware
