A United Airlines Flight from Chicago to Orange County made a sudden emergency landing on Sunday evening.

“The flight attendant was doing drink service, and she was right about to get to our row. She looked back, and all I saw was her face. Just sheer terror on her face.â€

The flight 1463 from Chicago to Orange County, had an emergency that couldn’t wait. One passenger said:

“Initially (the flight attendant) said, ‘We’re going down. We don’t know where, but somewhere,’

Chicago United Emergency Landing

That’s a scary thought. A slide deployed in the Boeing 737-700 near the rear of the plane which caused the emergency landing.

Speaking of SNAFU’s, United appears to of had an issue with providing breakfast to the folks who stayed over night waiting for the replacement flight.

United representatives provided complimentary bagels and coffee to the passengers of Flight 2076, and after a brief bagel logistical snafu – “You think they’d rather have bagels or be back to Orange County on time?†one United representative said to another – the plane was in the air.

Glad everyone made it back to the ground safely. I remember my scariest flight(s) to this day. I say flights because I have a tie for the two scariest flights. The first one was in collge on a Bahamas Air flight from Fort Lauderdale to Freeport, Bahamas when the flight must have dropped several hundred feet in seconds. Mrs. Weekly Flyer was taking a cruise over to the island and I was flying. So we weren’t together on that trip. The second flight was between Jacksonville, Florida and Tampa, Florida when we approached landing during a massive rain storm and aborted due to rain. The turbulence was the worst I’ve ever felt, especially for a prop plane.
Emergency landings aren’t fun and can be scary. The best kind of landings are the ones that go as planned. What’s your scariest landing or flight with an airline? Where was it and with who were you flying with?

  1. Korean trip for wedding ceremony there. Landing in Incheon as a hurricane was about 12 hours behind me in making landfall. Headwinds were 70mph. We were at 1,000 feet when suddenly the engines went full-throttle and the pilot aborted. We were being buffeted like pinballs inside the plane. The next 20 minutes were silent aboard the plane as we circled 5-10 miles to make another pass. Winds died down to 30 for that landing. Was married as planned 6 days later.
