Denied from Chase 70,000 Ink Plus Offer

I recently wrote about how Chase was having an offer for a 70,000 Chase Ink Plus card last week.

It appeared to be a public offer that was available in the local branches, so I decided to write to Chase via the Secure Message center and see if they would match my current offer of 60,000 points.

Thank you for contacting us about your credit card account. We appreciate the opportunity to ensure you receive any promotional offers available for your account.

The new offer provides 70,000 bonus points after spend of $5,000 on purchases in the first three months from the account open date, however the offer does not provide an annual fee waiver of $95.00 for the first year. The offer you were booked into is a different offer of 60,000 bonus points after spend of $5,000 on purchases in the first three months and no annual fee in the first year.

If you have any further questions, please reply using the Secure Message Center.

Bottom Line

Unfortunately, they were unwilling to grant me the 70,000 point offer, the first time around, since it has an annual fee the first year and my offer had it waived.

However, I think I’m gonna write back and ask them to switch it cause even for $95 for 10,000 extra points since I value Chase points at more than .95 cents a point, so I’ll see what they say.

Did you write Chase about upping your bonus? What was your response from them?

  1. I did the same thing and got the same response, and I wrote back and got denied a second time.

  2. I had the exact same situation, got denied the increased sign up bonus. So when I responded requesting to pay the $95 annual fee and receive the extra 10K, I was told that there was no way to adjust the offer.

  3. Same here. I sent a message, and when I was denied (because of the annual fee issue), I sent another message offering to pay the fee, but was denied again. I called and again offered to pay the fee and was denied. The rep did offer me 5k bonus points for my persistence, which I gladly accepted!

  4. I got the same response. I was thinking about calling, but seeing some of the experiences of other commenters here, I doubt it is worth it. 🙁

  5. You took an offer. That offer later changed. You are not entitled to the new offer, and the fact that some of you called multiple times after initial denial is mind boggling to me.
Since you all seem to love taking new offers when they come up, do you ever ask for the offer you signed up at to be adjusted downward when a signup bonus is decreased?
Full disclosure: I got Ink two days before this offer came out and didn’t for a fraction of a second think about calling or messaging to get it upgraded.

  6. I called and the supervisor said to call back after I have spent $5k and I should be able to get the offer.

  7. Better to buy 14-$200 Staples Visa gift cards at $6.95 = $97.30, = 14,000 UR points. Chase will waive the annual fee at the start of the second year.

  8. Add my name to the list of those who wrote to request upgraded offer and got the same response you re eived

  9. I received the targeted 70000 point offer 2 weeks after accepting and getting approved for the 50000 point offer. I called to ask if there might have been an error and the very courteous customer service rep said he would look into the matter and I would receive a letter in a week to 10 days. He also mentioned it was “likely” an adjustment would be offered

Got the letter today and was told to call after Oct 18 if I had reached the $5K spend and they would match the new offer if I were willing to pay the $95 first year fee (which is part of the 70000 point offer). Alternatively they would waive the first year $95 fee (as in the 50K point offer I had originally accepted) and give me an additional 10K points for a total bonus of 60K points.

More than fair. It’s a no brainer for me–I will pay the $95 fee. 70000 points is $840 in travel credit or 70000 UA miles!
