One of the many unanswered questions surrounding JetBlue Flight 1416 from LGB to AUS that was forced to make an emergency landing back at Long Beach Airport on Thursday after a blown engine filled the cabin with smoke was the question of let’s take a selfie?

After the 147 passengers evacuated the plane on emergency slides, one of them — “Twilight†actor Jackson Rathbone — posted a selfie of himself, his wife and his child with the Airbus A320 in the background with the emergency slides deployed. Never mind the four people reportedly injured in the accident, they did not post selfies.

According to Yahoo Travel, this is not the first time in 2014 that passengers involved in aircraft emergencies have posted selfies at the time of the incident.

They cited the following three examples …

Hannah Udren, a passenger on US Airways flight 1702 from PHL to FLL on Friday March 13, 2014 after the Airbus A320 was on take off roll, blew a tire, the skidded off the runway.  Let’s take a selfie.

The plane was diverted to New Castle Airport in Wilmington, DE. Let’s take a selfie.

The Yahoo Travel News story came with a poll at the bottom of the story asking a simple question – Emergency Landing Selfies … Okay or Not Okay?  The poll was easy to overlook, and did not reveal the number of voters or the break down until after a reader answered the poll.  As of Midnight Eastern Friday Night/Saturday Morning, with 4638 votes, 57 percent said it was Okay while 43 percent said it was Not Okay.  After an aircraft emergency what do you think … let’s take a selfie?
