It’s Wednesday. It’s raining on the East Coast. I’ve been to Venice, Madrid and Abu Dhabi in the past six weeks. I’m in a rut. I decided to look at this week’s SPG Hot Escapes hoping for vacation inspiration and maybe even someplace sunny.

Bottom Line

There is one bonus property that I want to list under the category of “hey, I want to go there” and it meets my personal criteria because it’s most likely sunny there during the day. It’s also the hotel that was listed at 69% off of the regular rate of $495 per night. And of course, it has the high negative factor of being so far away … and the fact that I had to google it to figure out where in Thailand it is – about 125 miles south of Bangkok.

If you are short on elite status, and mattress running isn’t going to cut it, consider the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from Amex which gives 5 elite qualifying nights, and 2 stay credits just for having the card. The Platinum Card from American Express offers complimentary annual SPG Gold status just for having the card, so that is something else to consider.
