At the end of 2013, Starwood announced that would be extending SPG Suite Night Awards for those who hadn’t yet used them all until March 31, 2014, and many SPG members were hoping that Starwood would do the same this year for SPG members who haven’t used them all.

SPG Suite Night Awards Not Extended

However, Starwood will not be extending any unused Suite Night Awards from 2014.

They posted the following on Flyertalk: It is confirmed that SPG will not be extending SNA expiration this year, but we are continuing to work on benefit enhancements for Platinum 50 members in 2015.

Bottom Line

For those SPG Platinum members who stayed 50 nights with Starwood and earned 10 Suite Night awards last year, hopefully you used because unused ones won’t be extended this year.

However, you’ll still be able to earn Suite Night Awards again this year if you stay 50 nights with Starwood, so not all is lost, though I’ve never personally had much using these.

  1. My only success story was using a suite night upgrade at the Liberty Hotel in Boston (Luxury Collection). The room was great and during the stay I entered an Instagram contest connect with their onsite restaurant and won another free night. It’s a great hotel!

  2. Pretty sure all of mine expired. The program is good in concept, but has failed to ever come through for me. In fact, it has actually resulted in me being downgraded at one hotel – I may have ended up in a Jr suite, but looking out at an alley is a definite downgrade from a water view.

  3. Hi John – Great hotel and especially for the price of free!

Hi Colin – Agree, I would regularly see mine expire without being able to use them. I almost feel it reduces upgrade chances and then there are all the shenanigans with hotel room types that hotels play to disqualify certain rooms from suite upgrades. There’s even been reports of regular rooms with couches counting as an “upgrade” for the suite upgrades.
