When I think of the world’s busiest airport, I think London, Dubai, Hong Kong and the like. CNN released their list of the top 10 busiest airports last week and it might not be what you suspect. “More than 96 million passengers went through this airport in 2014, an increase of 1.9% over 2013,” as reported by CNN.

CNN reports, that Atlanta’s Hartsfield Jackson is still the world’s busiest airport.

“The birthplace of Coca-Cola, “Gone with the Wind” and Martin Luther King Jr. is still home to the busiest passenger airport in the world.”

“With more than 86 million passengers last year, Beijing Capital International Airport remained in second place and continued to close the gap just a bit more with Atlanta, according to the worldwide association of airports. It saw an increase of 2.9% over 2013.”

  2. Beijing Capital International Airport
  3. London’s Heathrow Airport
  4. Toyko’s Haneda Airport
  5. Los Angeles International Airport
  6. Dubai
  7. Chicago O’Hare International Airport
  8. Paris Charles de Gaulle
  9. Dallas/Fort Worth
  10. Hong Kong

  1. That’s because those are huge airline hubs. I don’t mean any disrespect to those cities, but what % are actually traveling to Atlanta, or Dubai? IIRC, it’s under about 3/4.

    For the O&D traffic, some cities, like NYC and Washington, have multiple airports, so none of their airports become a really big “hub”.

    Strictly for O&D traffic, LAX is out on top, no surprise.
