As the American Airlines and US Airways merger continues, the next step has started in which the airlines have begun combining their loyalty programs. American emailed their AAdvantage members an update this morning detailing what you can expect. I then decided to login into my account and sure enough my American and US Airways accounts were combined.

Here’s the email I just received from American:

As you requested, we’re working to transfer your Dividend Miles®mileage balance, Preferred-qualifying activity and million mile balance into your AAdvantage account on a one-to-one ratio.Merging your accounts will take several days, and you’ll receive another email when everything is combined. Until then, you’ll only see your AAdvantage account balance on aa.com and usairways.com.Here’s what’s new:

Your account

Once your accounts are combined, you can log in to your account onaa.com or usairways.com using your AAdvantage credentials.

Earning & redeeming

We’ll make sure you get credit for all the miles you earn during this transition, even if your Dividend Miles number was listed in your reservation or with a partner.

Moving forward, use your AAdvantage number when you book travel with us, and with partners, travel agencies and in corporate booking tools.

You can redeem your miles on aa.com or with AAdvantage reservations. And, you can use them for upgrades on American and US Airways, car rentals, hotel stays and more.

Traveling with us

We’ll continue to operate as two separate airlines with separate websites, mobile sites and apps until later this year. Until then, policies including same-day flight change and standby will vary by airline. You can still book travel on both websites. And, you should continue to check in and manage your trips with the airline operating your flight.

It’s a great time to be part of the AAdvantage program. Thank you for your loyalty, and we look forward to seeing you on board soon.

Sincerely,
Suzanne L. Rubin
President, AAdvantage Loyalty Program

Bottom Line

I just logged into my American Airlines account and saw that my US Airways Dividend Miles have been merged with my American miles, so I would encourage you to login into your account and check to see if it’s been done. If it hasn’t, it should be combined in the next few days so stay tuned!
