While many people have migrated from Bluebird over to Redbird, I just received an e-mail from American Express offering me $1 back from every purchase made from different merchants with my Bluebird by American Express in April, May and June – up to $50 a month in statement credits, and $150 in statement credits over the three month time period.Screen Shot 2015-04-01 at 7.10.55 PMThe e-mail, which does not appear to have a sign-up requirement, outlines these three easy steps:

  1. Use your Bluebird Card virtually anywhere American Express® Cards are accepted
  2. Get a $1 account credit the first time you spend at a merchant each month
  3. Keep using Bluebird at different merchants and get up to $50 in account credit each month in April, May and June

Screen Shot 2015-04-01 at 7.23.44 PMTerms and Conditions:

Receive a $1 account credit to your Bluebird Account for each eligible purchase or payment using your Bluebird Card that appears on your Bluebird Account statement and is made between April 1, 2015 through June 30, 2015. Limit of fifty dollars ($50) in total account credits per calendar month during the offer period. (Up to $1 in account credits per merchant per month, for a total of up to $3 per merchant during the offer period).  If you do not reach the monthly account credit limit of fifty dollars ($50) in a given calendar month, you will not be eligible for more than fifty dollars ($50) in account credits the following month. ATM, Pay Bills, Send Money, Bluebird Check transactions, and transfers to linked bank accounts, Sub-Accounts or SetAside Accounts are not eligible purchases or payments for purposes of the offer. Merchants are responsible for submitting transaction information to us, and if American Express does not receive information from the merchant that identifies your transaction as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive any account credit.  Purchase transactions may fall outside of the month in which you made the purchase if there is a delay in the merchant submitting the transaction information to us. Account credit will normally be applied to your Bluebird Account promptly after your eligible purchase or payment transaction clears, but could take up to thirty (30) days.  Account credit may be reversed if a qualifying transaction is reversed or cancelled.  Offer expires June 30, 2015, and is subject to change or cancellation at any time.

Bottom Line:

While this is not a game changer in how I will spend on credit cards over the next 90 days, I could see myself using my Bluebird for smaller purchases, such as buying a cup of coffee from different coffee merchants. Anybody else have any creative uses for this promotion?

  1. Looks like I will be putting a bucks worth of gas in the car with BB along with my regular fill up, or at fifty stations in town!
