Ugh, I don’t really like even typing that title, however that is how this story was reported. As reported by USA Today Travel, Road Warrior Voices, a nightmare Airbnb scenario has ensued for one couple in Calgary, Alberta who used Airbnb to rent out their home to make extra money. Now, I will mention that regardless of this story, I really like Airbnb! In fact, I have an upcoming stay in a couple months, as well as regularly check Airbnb for cool locals and vacation spots. I haven’t used Airbnb as a host, yet though.

Airbnb: “Drug-Induced Orgy” Ruins Home

Back to the story as reported, the couple returned home, “on Monday to find the smell of pot streaming from the windows, chicken thighs in their shoes, and estimates of $75,000 in damages.” Apparently, the renters rented their house under the guise of attending a family wedding. But, reportedly over 100 people rolled into the house for a party! But, not just any party. The article suggests that the party was a “drug-induced orgy,” according to the police.

Homeowner Star King told CBC News:

“We came and wished the home was burnt down to ashes. It would have felt way better.â€

“Star and her husband Mark found cigarettes butted out on furniture, food and garbage strewn throughout the premises, condoms plugging the toilet, and ketchup and mayonnaise smeared across the walls and paintings. Broken glass competed with discarded panties and bras for floorspace. Alcohol, vomit, and semen were found throughout the premises.”

Bottom Line

This story is obviously a nightmare for this couple and for Airbnb, but I found it interesting to learn about Airbnb’s $1 million host guarantee. I’m sure that this is definitely not the norm and that most hosts have good experiences with their renters. Airbnb is another great option for you to use to book travel.
