  1. I clicked on your link from the main boarding area page, and some spam/virus link. 2nd time this has happened since yesterday. It happened after clicking on someone else’s blog. It made me have to shut down my broswer because it locked up.

  2. The same thing happened to me. I think it was a fake add/link that was disguised as a real one. Looked pretty convincing though. My browser locked up and a popup came up that gave a phone number to call to get it unlocked (obviously didn’t call it). I quickly shut off my wifi. I couldn’t get my browser to close or do anything for that matter. I restarted and everything looked fine. I’m still running full scans of my system and I won’t reconnect to the network until everything checks out. I think the lesson here, at least for me, is to hover over links from now on when I’m on this site so that I can see where they actually lead. Lesson learned.

  3. As was mentioned in another blog AMEX is doing all of this partly because of the upcoming loss of Costco. They are trying to prevent numerous account closures by making cardmembers feel like they will miss out on these valuable offers if they don’t stick with AMEX. My strategy is to keep only their no fee cards, especially since those with a fee are now “one signup bonus per lifetime”. And I predict that strategy too will eventually change to once every 24 months. Even with giving away a signup bonus repeatedly AMEX will see that they really do, after all, need those $1000’s in minimum spend generated to get that bonus.

  4. Matt, I send an email to the folks at boarding area about the issue. I think that is where the problem is. Like I said, happened twice, once yesterday on a different computer, and once today. I clicked on the link to this very page.

  5. Kurt – Good call on emailing them. Scary that it was the actual link causing that. Have you noticed any issues with your computer? I’m using a different computer now and haven’t been back online with the other one yet.
