Last month, we wrote about how Delta Selling Medallion Qualifying Miles at Astronomical Prices, which was suppose to end December 31, 2015. Despite the high prices, Delta is continuing to sell Medallion Qualifying Miles through January 31, 2016, which will count toward your MQMs for 2015 which earns you Medallion Status in 2016.
As a reminder, you’ll only be offered them if you’re a current SkyMiles member, Silver Medallion, Gold Medallion, or Platinum Medallion are within 10,000 MQMs of the next status level. If you don’t fall into one of these categories, you may not be able to buy MQMs.
Before you buy MQM’s remember the following:
- MQMs purchased will be deposited to your 2015 MQM balance
- MQMs purchased through this offer are non-refundable
- Dollars spent toward MQM purchase will apply to your 2015 MQD balance
- You may purchase a minimum of 2,500 up to a maximum of 10,000 MQMs for one SkyMiles account for the 2016 Medallion year
Cheaper Alternatives to Earning MQMs:
If you are looking for a way to earn even more Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQM’s), the Delta Reserve card gives 10,000 MQM’s and 10,000 SkyMiles after the first purchase. The Platinum Delta Amex gives 35,000 bonus SkyMiles plus 5,000 MQM’s after spending $1,000, and the Delta Gold Amex gives 30,000 bonus SkyMiles after spending $1,000 within the first three months.
Once you sign-up for the Delta Reserve Credit Card from American Expres, if you then spend $30,000 on the card in a calendar year, you can earn what’s called a miles boost, which gives you 15,000 bonus miles and 15,000 MQMs each calendar year when you spend $30,000 on the card. And if you make a total of $60,000 in eligible purchases you will earn an additional 15,000 bonus miles and 15,000 MQMs each calendar year.
The same is true for the Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express, if you then spend $25,000 on the card in a calendar year, you can earn a miles boost, which gives you 10,000 bonus miles and 10,000 MQMs after you spend $25,000 or more in eligible purchases on your Card in a calendar year. And if you make a total of $50,000 or more in eligible purchases on your card in a calendar year you can earn an additional 10,000 bonus miles and 10,000 MQMs.
Buying MQMs is not something I would recommend especially if you’re currently a Platinum Medallion, since they are charging the highest prices for Plats since they’re so close to Diamond Medallion Status, however you still have time since this offer has been extended through January 31, 2016.
