Hotel Review: InterContinental New York Barclay

The InterContinental New York Barclay recently re-opened after an extensive renovation in Manhattan, and the I had the opportunity to stay here on a recent trip to New York. Thanks to my IHG Rewards Credit Card, I was able to redeem one free night here, however free nights can also be had for 60,000 points per night.

The hotel is located on 48th and Lexington Ave. If coming from JFK, it’s a quick walk from the E train stop on 53rd and Lexington.

The lobby is very elegant and offers plenty of seating, however the entire hotel was very quiet when I was there, which I found surprising despite the large number of rooms it has.

As an IHG Rewards Club Platinum member on a free night, I was upgraded to a Barclay room (however it looks more like an Executive room according to their online pictures), which was just a slightly larger room, however the room was not ready at the 3pm check-in time, so I strolled around the area until it became ready past 4pm.

I was offered a choice of points or a $15 minibar credit, however club lounge access is not complimentary, so I wasn’t able to check out the club.

The room decor is also very elegant similar to the lobby

Bottom Line:

I really wanted to like this hotel, since it’s such an iconic property, but there was something off about it during my stay. It could be that it recently opened so they were still working out all the kinks.

  1. I’m staying here 2 nights next week to check it out. Did you pay for breakfast?

  2. How much was the lounge access? I also have the IHG credit card and will definitely consider using my free night voucher for this property!
