Flight Review: IcelandAir Business Class New York (JFK)- Reykjavik

Upon boarding the flight I quickly noticed how hot the cabin temperature was. It was in the low 90’s in NYC, with high humidity. It doesn’t appear that IcelandAir runs their APU’s on the ground, likely as a cost cutting method. This leads to many uncomfortable passengers.  As soon as the door closed however, the cabin cooled down quickly.

Upon taking my seat in the Saga Class cabin, I found a nice amenity kit, and was quickly offered champagne. The amenity kit was basic and what you would find on any most carriers in domestic first class.

The seats were spacious and comfortable. IcelandAir operates a fleet of 757’s and I found the Saga Class cabin to have a few more inches of legroom than what you would find on a Delta 757.  Foot rests were also attached.

Wifi was also available, and they provide gate to gate wifi.  For Saga Class passengers, wifi is free. On two of the flights I took, I found that the wifi would not accept my saga class ticket number for free wifi, so the flight attendants supplied codes to unlock the free wifi. Speeds were much better than what you find on Gogo, with the biggest benefit being gate to gate access, vs. above 10,000 feet on Gogo.

Bottom Line

I found the service to be very attentive during this flight, and the flight attendants were always available for drink refills, and proactive to help.  The food was mediocre, but edible.  The meal service is performed all at once, with a choice of 2 entrees.  About an hour before landing, croissants and orange juice are provided.
