Back in December, we wrote about how Delta Was Testing Complimentary Main Cabin Meals on Transcon Flights, and since the test has concluded, I’m pleased to hear that Delta will be adding meals back to the Main Cabin on transcons.

Delta Air Lines

Below are the details sent to us from a reader, who is a Delta Flight Attendant.  We’ve reached out to Delta to get more details:

Starting March 1, 2017 Delta will be adding complimentary meals in their Main Cabin on Transcontinental flights between New York (JFK) to Los Angeles and San Francisco.

  • Delta will be adding meals for Main Cabin Passengers and as well as Comfort+ passengers.
  • Passengers will be able to choose from one of  three meal choices, including a vegetarian option
  • Similar to their other flights with meals, passengers will be able to request special meals
  • With these no options, Flight Fuel will be discontinued onboard Transcon flights

Bottom Line

There’s so much competition on Transcontinental routes between NYC and LAX/SFO with Delta, United, American, JetBlue and Virgin America trying to win business, that these seems like a great way for Delta to really differentiate themselves from the competition.

Since Delta currently serves Luvo wraps in Comfort Plus on these routes, it will be interesting to see how they can distinguish the product offerings between Comfort + and Main Cabin when it comes to meals on these flights. Either way props to Delta on this enhancement!

  1. This is definitely a good change. As you said, the trans con game is a competitive one – so here’s something extra that Delta can bring to the table. Even the Basic Economy ticket holders get a meal 😉
