42,500 Bonus American AAdvantage Miles

American Airlines has announced their latest Buy Miles promotion, which is running now through February 8, 2018, where you can earn up to 42,500 bonus American Airlines AAdvantage miles. American Airlines constantly offers promotions when purchasing miles, so I’m not the least surprised to see another one being offered.

With this new offer if you wanted to buy 100,000 American AAdvantage miles, meaning you’d receive the 42,500 bonus and 10% bonus, for a total of 142,500 miles for $2,884 including taxes and fees, which comes out to about 2.02 cents per mile, which isn’t that great of a deal, considering they’ve had recent offers as low as 1.77 cents per mile.

  1. Here are my calculations if you buy 150K AA miles under this offer:

    You get: 150K + 42,500 = 192,500 AA miles purchased

    You Pay: $3,982.50 USD
    Federal excise tax $298.69 USD
    Processing charge $30.00 USD
    Total charges $4,311.19 USD

So the AA mile would be for 2.2395 or ~ $22.40 per 1000 AA miles. Absolutely not worth it unless you are topping off for a specific award seat you have in mind.
