The two day getaway to Aruba was the perfect amount of time for us. We were able to secure tickets on Delta Airlines using flight vouchers and only came out of pocket around $100 each. For the hotel, we used 44,000 Hyatt Gold Passport points to book 2 nights at the Aruba Hyatt Regency Resort & Casino.

Before heading to the airport on the last day for our 3 PM flight, we checked out the Hyatt Shocco Market Cafe for a quick lunch, then grabbed a taxi to the airport.

Trip Report

Departure To The Airport

The Shocco Market Cafe is located on the lobby level towards the beach. They breakfast and lunch items at a lower price than the restaurants.

The cafe offers an “airport certified meal to go” which you can take through security. Upon closer inspection, they are only allowed to provide you with a sandwich consisting of poultry meat and mustard or mayonnaise on the side – no lettuce or tomato. The other items allowed through security is a Banana and a bag of chips.

Hyatt Return Food

For $13.95, we decided to order a few slices of pizza and head up to the Regency Club lounge for a lunch with a view.

After our lunch to go, we closed out our bill in the Regency Club and headed down to catch a taxi to the airport. The taxi cost $25 USD and was a quick ride to the airport.

First Class Upgrade Dilemma

I knew this dilemma would come ever since I opened my mouth and made a bet about the sunset arriving early on our first night. The winner, who came closest to guessing the correct sundown time, would receive the upgrade if only one of us was upgraded. Sure enough, on the day of departure my ticket was showing as #1 on the upgrade list and Mrs Weekly Flyer was #7. The dilemma came because there was only 2 available first class seats, one of them with Mrs Weekly Flyer’s name written all over it.

We posted up near the gate with a beer and caught a few planes arriving and departing. We saw a United 757 and a Weekly Flyer first, Laser Airlines.

Return Flight In Delta Economy Comfort

A few minutes before departure I did the walk of shame and went to the gate to pick up Mrs Weekly Flyer’s new ticket in 1 C. I graciously accepted my seat in 11 C and off we went on our four hour flight back to the United States.

I knew I hit pay dirt when I boarded the plane. I hit it big because the flight had TVs in every seat. Since Gogo wifi isn’t functional over the Caribbean, watching “The Five Year Engagement” for free was a great way to spend a few hours.

Economy Comfort Seat With TV

Interestingly enough, Gogo wifi service picked up around Nassau Bahamas. So I had internet service for the last ~hour of flying. For loosing a bet, the economy comfort seat with an extra 4 inches of legroom, Gogo wifi for part of the flight and TV wasn’t so bad.

Bottom Line

Since we cleared customs in Aruba, we didn’t get to use Mrs Weekly Flyer’s new Global Entry status.

A visit to Aruba and the Hyatt Resort & Casino was a great way to spend a few days relaxing in the sun dodging hurricanes.

  1. So AUA has US pre-clearance available to all? Ie: you came into ATL as a domestic flight then? This would be ideal for connections home.
