Starwood has jumped into the free weekend night game with Hyatt and Hilton with their new promotion.  The promotion comes with loads of restrictions.  No redemption at top tier category 7 hotels although Hyatt and Hilton both offer redemption of their free nights at any category hotel.  No redemption on weekdays although Hyatt and Hilton have no restriction on day of the week.

Registration here will be live on May 1st, 2010.

  • Earn one Free Weekend Night Award for every three stays from May 1 through July 31, 2010. Earn at all SPG properties across all nine brands.
  • Redeem any Friday, Saturday or Sunday* at more than 920 Category 1–6 hotels and resorts through December 19, 2010.
  • There’s no limit and no blackouts on your earnings, and awards can be combined.

Bottom Line

The benefit I see with this promotion is if you have a few nights planned at a SPG hotel this summer and need to bank the points back into your account.  I’m doing this myself and have already earned enough Hyatt nights for my travel through August.  The other benefit over Hyatt is the award nights don’t expire until December 19th.  So if you have a stay between now and December 19th, consider switching it up from Hilton or Hyatt to earn a few free nights and bank those valuable SPG points.
