Most people know that you cannot earn airline miles or hotel points directly with Enterprise car rentals. As a result most point junkies tend to avoid renting with Enterprise. Here is a work around that most people don’t know about. There is a work around to earn hotel points or airline miles. With this approach you earn 150 Amtrak points per rental day and then convert your Amtrak points to hotel points or airline miles.

Hotel Points Earning Approach

  • Book a rental car with Enterprise using customer #AMGRTRP
  • Valid until March 31, 2012
  • Earn 150 Amtrak points with each rental day at enterprise
  • Transfer Amtrak points* to Hilton Honors points at a 1:2 ratio
  • Example 1: transfer 5,000 Amtrak points into 10,000 Hilton Honors points
  • Example 2: transfer 5,000 Amtrak points into 15,000 Choice Privileges points
Airline Mile Earning Approach
  • Book a rental car with Enterprise using customer #AMGRTRP
  • Valid until March 31, 2012
  • Earn 150 Amtrak points* with each rental day at enterprise
  • Transfer Amtrak points to Continental miles at a 1:1 ratio
  • Example; transfer 5,000 Amtrak points into 5,000 Continental miles
  • Not sure how much longer this will last as I don’t see United as an Amtrak partner
Alternatively you can credit your Enterprise rentals to National’s Emerald Club (hat tip to Gary).
Bottom Line
If you are renting a car with Enterprise, see if adding the customer #AMGRTRP doesn’t add a cost to your reservation. If it doesn’t, then you won’t have to leave 150 Amtrak points per rental day on the table.

    Enterprise car rentals can be credited to National’s Emerald Club.
