Guest Post – Big time Hyatt award redemption close to home

A great selling point for the Hyatt Gold Passport program is that they have one of the lowest award costs for their top tier hotel redemptions at 22000 Points per night (Compare that to Starwood’s  60000-140000 points for one night redemption at certain properties!).  There are several aspirational properties in Hyatt’s international portfolio with enormous per night price tags where you can achieve some pretty impressive cents per point value.  In most cases, these big time redemptions are outside the US  in expensive locations such as the Park Hyatt Paris and the Park Hyatt Tokyo.  The cost of getting there makes a weekend trip redemption unrealistic, though don’t challenge me Winking smile .

I set a travel goal earlier this year to go skiing for the first time as an adult so this week I began my research.  To my surprise, I found rooms on several weekend dates at the Park Hyatt Beaver Creek during ski season available for redemption which are selling at a whopping 1000 dollars per night.  The CPP calculation comes out to a little over 5 cents per point.  Here is a random date in early March.Hyatt Beaver

I compared this $1000+ per night rate to the Paris and Tokyo Park Hyatt’s in their respective peak summer seasons and those properties still did not match this ski season price tag.  While I am sure there are opportunities to achieve greater than 5 cents per point at some of Hyatt’s international properties, it is nice to see such a big time Hyatt redemption so close to home.
