Recently United Airlines announced that they would be de-hubbing Cleveland. United claims that they had to make made the difficult decision to significantly reduce their future flying from Cleveland.
Although the city of Cleveland has been incredibly supportive of United and has tirelessly worked with us to try to make the hub profitable, there is not enough demand for hub-level connecting traffic, and the hub has not been profitable for over a decade.
Sample fare prices for these routes start at:
- $39* each way to Raleigh-Durham
- $59* each way to Atlanta
- $69* each way to Tampa
- $79* each way to Fort Lauderdale
- $79* each way to Fort Myers
- $99* each way to Phoenix
“As the only true low-fare carrier at Cleveland, we’re excited to double our destination choices,” said Daniel Shurz, Frontier’s senior vice president, commercial. “We are confident customers will love our ultra-low fares, more choices, and friendly service.”
Bottom Line
If you live in Cleveland or fly there much, you won’t be all out of luck with United’s de-hubbing since Frontier is adding service to six new destinations.
