As a benefit of being an American Express card holder, I have free ShopRunner membership ($79 annual value). I find that having this service comes in handy at certain merchants who use ShopRunner to get free 2-day shipping and free returns. I currently have the Delta Reserve Credit Card from American Express, and The Platinum Card® from American Express, as well as the a few others. Change To ShopRunner Amex Card Member Benefit
The other day I received the following email from American Express letting me know that in the future, a minimum order size will be required at certain retailers in order to receive ShopRunner free shipping benefits. This is definitely a downgrade in how valuable this service is to me. A lot of times, I find it useful that I can order something that is on sale for only $5 or $10 and get the free shipping with ShopRunner. I guess it depends on the retailer and what the minimums are before I can decide for sure how this will affect my online shopping going forward.
Bottom Line
I love online shopping and hate to pay for shipping, so I use ShopRunner whenever I can. I find it to be a good benefit of being an American Express card holder. I guess we will have to wait and see what these minimums are at certain retailers. But, this news doesn’t sound great to me.

I received this email as well – this is a very opaque change in terms – you have to literally take AMEX’ word for it that the only change is the additional of purchase minimums –
That said – there is now a shoprunner minimum at Under Armour – where I used to use the benefit to get free 2 day shipping with any purchase – which now is $149 – free 2 day shipping with ANY purchase is at $150 – not sure shoprunner is a benefit there any longer!
I loved ShopRunner for small purchases at drugstore.com
If points were expiring I would go to the airline/hotel shopping portal, buy something at drugstore.com and reset the expiration date.
I am sure drugstore.com will now have a minimum for free shipping. Sometimes I would purchase a $2-3 item so ShopRunner was a great benefit.
