Now through July 13, American AAdvantage members can earn up to 27,500 American Airlines AAdvantage bonus miles plus save 15% when you buy or gift miles.

With this offer if you wanted to get the most bang for the buck, you could buy 76,000 American AAdvantage miles, meaning you’d receive 103,500 for $2,078.63 which comes out to about 2 cents per mile, which isn’t a horrible deal if you’re in need of American AAdvantage miles.

AAdvantage members must purchase at least 16,000 AAdvantage miles or more in a single transaction from the Buy or Gift Miles program beginning 7:00:00 am CT on July 6, 2015 to 11:59:59 pm CT July 31, 2015, to be eligible for bonus miles. Members must complete a Buy or Gift miles purchase by midnight CT on July 13th to receive a 15% discount on the mileage cost. The applicable bonus miles are awarded to the recipient for Gift Miles transactions. The applicable bonus miles awarded are shown beside each mileage increment in the mileage selection drop-down box. Bonus miles earned do not count toward the annual limits. The discount applies to the AAdvantage miles purchased and does not apply towards taxes or the $30 transaction processing fee.

Transactions are nonrefundable and nonreversible. The miles successfully purchased or transferred will post to the designated account immediately. Each AAdvantage member is limited to purchasing or receiving in a calendar year, a combined total of no more than one hundred thousand (100,000) AAdvantage miles. Miles purchased through the Buy Miles program or received as a gift through the Gift Miles program count against this total. The miles purchased with the Buy Miles program and received with the Gift Miles program do not count towards AAdvantage Gold, AAdvantage Platinum, AAdvantage Executive Platinum or AAdvantage Million MilerSM status qualification. A confirmation email will be sent to the primary buyer/gifter and/or recipient, using the email address(es) associated with the AAdvantage account(s) and any additional email address provided. AAdvantage accounts less than 30 days old are not permitted to Buy or Gift Miles.

Bottom Line

I wouldn’t generally buy these just to buy them but if you need a few more for an award ticket, or want to book a business class flight and save some money from buying it, then there are instances when this could make sense to do it.
