As much as we all enjoy airport lounges, some could say they aren’t the most healthy (depending on the airline) on what type of food and drinks are being served. Well, if you ever wished you could work out at the airport before your flight, this soon will be a reality thanks to a new concept called ROAM Fitness which plans to pop up and airports nationwide.

Per CBS Baltimore,

If you have long wait at the airport, now there’s something to keep you busy and maybe help keep you in shape. A new gym is set to open at BWI Thurgood marshall airport in a few weeks.

The airport’s ROAM Fitness gym was originally scheduled to open in November, but now it’s on track to open at the end of January.

ROAM Fitness is located past the security checkpoint, between terminals D and E. Construction started last fall. The owner plans to attract all types of travelers. Prices include clothing rentals, towel service, and shower access. Only ticketed passengers and airport staff can enjoy the amenities.

Equipment will include cardio machines, free weights and a space dedicated to stretching.

The location at BWI is the first of its kind, but locations are coming soon to Charlotte, Atlanta, and Pittsburgh and the gym is looking to expand.

A one-year membership is $600 and a one-day pass is $40. They are offering discounted passes for early membership registration.

Per the website, you can pre-order discounted passes and memberships with a day pass for only $25, or an annual membership for $500.

It will be interesting to see if this really takes off, if they will join any lounge networks such as Priority Pass, or if any credit card companies will offer access.

Perhaps nationwide fitness clubs such as Lifetime or Equinox could partner with ROAM and offer their members access.

Feel free to share your thoughts on these new airport gyms.

  1. I make a major effort to work-out early in the mornings before my flights. By doing this I can get trashed in the lounge.

  2. Such a great idea! I love that they can vacuum seal your sweaty clothing…would not want to be the stinky one on the plane haha.
