United Airlines has announced they’ll be adding several new routes to Europe next summer. Highlights include nonstop service between Washington Dulles and Edinburgh as well as San Francisco to Zurich service. Other new routes include Newark to Porto, Portugal as well as to Reykjavik, Iceland.
Per United Airlines,
United Airlines announced new nonstop seasonal service to four popular European destinations including Reykjavik, Iceland, Porto, Portugal, Edinburgh, Scotland, and Zurich, Switzerland. United’s 2018 summer schedule offers more options for United customers from more than 100 North American cities to conveniently connect to Europe with just one stop in New York/Newark, San Francisco or Washington/Dulles hubs. Subject to government approval. These flights are now available for purchase.
In addition to United’s new summer offerings to Iceland, Portugal, Scotland and Switzerland, the airline will start daily service between Los Angeles and Singapore and between New York/Newark and Buenos Aires in October 2017 and in January 2018, will begin daily nonstop service between Houston and Sydney. Subject to government approval.
I’m excited to see United adding these new routes though some seem only to be added to remain competitive in the marketplace. For instance, Delta flies nonstop from New York (JFK) to Reykjavik, so having United adding service from Newark to Reykjavik, Iceland is more just to remain competitive with Delta in NYC. Newark to Porto, Portugal is a welcomed addition to United, however TAP Portugal already flies this route.
