A Delta Air Lines flight bound from New York City (JFK) to Seattle made an emergency landing this weekend in Billings, Montana due to all the toilets being full and stopped working, meaning passengers couldn’t use the bathrooms for the remainder of the flight.
Per the Billings Gazette,
A direct Delta flight from New York City to Seattle on Saturday night made an unplanned stop in Billings for what several passengers considered an emergency — a potty break.
While enroute, the Boeing 757’s toilets “ceased functioning, with passengers queuing up and indicating they needed to visit the toilet,†according to a Delta incident report.
Kevin Ploehn, the Billings director of aviation and transit, said ground crews escorted the passengers safely into the terminal where they could do their business and wait while the plane’s toilets were serviced. The plane was also refueled so it could take off again, he said.
The plane was on the ground in Billings for over 3 hours before it finally took back off for Seattle. It’s unclear if the toilets were malfunctioning or if they became full due to passenger usage during the flight.

Could be that the ground crew in NY forgot to service the lav tanks?
Kinda reminds me of a delayed trip MSP-IAH a couple years ago. It was around 0F here, and the morning CR7 departure had cold-soaked overnight.
The single rear lav had a frozen tank. We couldn’t dispatch on a sector that long with ~60 pax and no working lav. Ground crew came through with two five gallon buckets of hot blue liquid (clean!) to try and warm things up – with lots of warning about the very narrow aisle and very staining fluid.
Alas, we spent a cold hour on the plane before trudging off and being rebooked on later flights as the creative attempt didn’t do the trick.
Ever since, I’m a bit leery of CR7s early in the day out of MSP in winter!
