Could This Be Starwood’s Downfall?

Starwood offers some of my favorite properties when it comes to using points. The St Regis properties in particular are amongst my favorites to burn my hard earned SPG points at. Back in 2016, Marriott and SPG completed their merger to become one company and I’ll admit I was worried. Since then there haven’t been a ton of changes but, according to Onemileatatime, this may be one of the biggest so far.

Could This Be Starwood’s Downfall?

Are Starwood Hotels making the switch from Coca-Cola to Pepsi? I hope not. Marriott tends to carry Pepsi products and SPG Coca-Cola. But, some are starting to notice a recent switch over that may make die hard soda lovers very upset!

Could This Be Starwood's Downfall?

In all seriousness, I have a big preference when it comes to Coke over Pepsi and I know that I am not alone here. When you are used to always being able to order a Coke at your favorite hotels, it will be hard to hear that you can’t have one! How do you feel about this change?

The Platinum Card from American Express offers complimentary annual SPG Gold status just for having the card, so that is something else to consider.

  1. I prefer Pepsi to drink, if I’m going to have a soda–but I prefer Coke for a mixer 🙂

  2. There are two kinds of people in the world. People that prefer Coke, and people that can’t tell the difference.

  3. Got me with the cute clickbait. 🙂 However, I am a true Coke person; I’ve actually passed multiple blind tastes tests for Diet Coke, and had to quit Coke Zero when they changed the flavor and name a few months ago. We tend to hit the restaurants/lounges only for breakfast at hotels, so fortunately we almost never get Pepsi and just drink coffee at them. Thankfully a devaluation that has no effect on me for once. 🙂

  4. Whether it is a good deal depends on if you have a need for SPG points.
