We recently wrote about Uber Adding 3 New Features For Smooth Ride with one of the new features being a guaranteed pick up time. This is great if you have an early morning flight, and need to schedule a Uber ride you can now do so. Additionally, they’re offering a $10 ride credit if for some reason the driver isn’t there at your scheduled time.

Here’s what Uber has to say:

5am flight? Meeting with your boss? A first date worthy of a good impression? Schedule a ride up to 30 days in advance for the most important events in your calendar. Schedule at least 60 minutes in advance to lock in your price ahead of your trip so you can avoid surprises. When you schedule at least 30 minutes in advance, your driver will pick you up on time or you’ll receive a $10 credit.

Scheduled Rides pricing is similar to on-demand trip pricing and is based on duration, distance, traffic, and demand. When you schedule a ride at least 60 minutes in advance, your price will be locked in ahead of time. If you schedule less than 60 minutes in advance, you’ll receive a fare estimate will be notified via push notification if your fare has changed when your driver is assigned to you.

I love Uber, it is super convenient! If you still haven’t tried Uber yet, you can still get a credit towards your first ride with my referral link, here or your credit can be applied to your UberEats order instead!

  1. My uber driver apparently got lost and was 25 minutes late on a ride I’d scheduled several hours prior.

I got no credit and there is no option I can find to report the issue. How exactly is one supposed to get this credit?

  2. This guarantee is bogus. I scheduled an Uber ride in the morning. The driver accepted my ride, then started my trip while I was 5 miles away and completed the trip after 10 minutes. My belief is he didn’t want to go to my drop off location and hoped I would cancel the ride for him.

When I reached out to Uber, I got the following responses:

1st response) The driver arrived on time. I then told them that he completed a phantom trip and never picked me up.
2nd response) Their policy has no allowances for credits. I then pointed them to their on-time policy and $10 credit.
3rd response) There was no drivers available at that time so they couldn’t honor the guarantee. I told them that there was a driver available. He accepted my ride, but just chose to try to cheat the system. I also decided to give up and told them I was taking my corporate business elsewhere.

  3. They no longer honor the $10 credit. I had a scheduled pickup where two drivers canceled and the third arrived 17 minutes after the end if the pickup window. Platinum support said the $10 credit is “not in accordance with our standards at this time”. Strangely enough, they didn’t put out a press release when they stopped offering the $10 credit (even though they were happy to put out a press release when they started offering it). It’s a bait and switch.

It’s not about the $10. There is no longer any incentive for them to honor their commitment to the pickup window that they are allowing you to schedule. What’s the point?

  4. Reserved a ride at 8:00pm on Thursday June 13 for Friday morning June 14. The reservation was accepted and confirmed and the price for the trip given. No driver responded to my reservation and I received no notification of cancellation. They simply did not show up. Ten minutes after the reserve pick-up time, I requested an on-demand pick-up which was acknowledged, but again no driver came and no notification was given in any form. Trying to find a way to contact Uber about this problem proved so difficult, I finally gave up.
