The W Las Vegas, the only W property in Las Vegas, is leaving W Hotels on July 20, 2018, as it transitions over to the SLS Las Vegas, Tribute Portfolio, which falls under the Starwood Preferred Guest umbrella. The property was recently sold and these changes come under the new ownership.

SPG award reservations will be honored, as the property will remain a SPG Category 4 with free night awards starting at 10,000 SPG points per night.

Per Starwood,

The W Las Vegas will be transitioning to the SLS Las Vegas, a Tribute Portfolio Resort on July 20, 2018 and will no longer be affiliated with the W brand. Reservations for dates on or after July 20, 2018 will continue to be eligible for Starwood Preferred Guest membership benefits, award redemption and accrual.

The SLS has been in the news lately as Future of SLS Las Vegas, Hotel Sold and Possible Re-brand. The SLS Las Vegas and the W are currently connected already, so it’s no surprise to see the W Las Vegas, which is the third tower to transition over to the SLS.

  1. I’ve stayed in the W Las Vegas 3 times for week-long conferences since it came into existence. I liked that check-in the “living room” having a private entrance because you didn’t have to walk through the SLS’s casino. More importantly, since it didn’t technically have a casino, it could be booked through my company system, a requirement. It was far superior to the Westin, which also doesn’t have a casino. I have an existing reservation for a big conference in November and I’m assuming it will be honored. Going forward, however, I’ll be in that Westin I guess. Unless I find a Marriott property that you also get elite night credit (aka you can get Marriott points but not elite qualification at the Cosmo).

  2. I have stayed at both. I prefer the W but the SLS is also very good. The restaurant called “Cleo” is amazing. I like the fact that the casino is smaller which makes both hotels a bit less hectic. Bonus: Free parking…for now!
