Southwest Airlines has announced they’ll be cutting their planned service out of Seattle’s newest airport Paine Field, which is Seattle’s smaller airport located North of the city, before they even started flying there.

You’ll recall the initial announcement of Southwest Airlines Adds Seattle Everett’s Paine Field Service. Their initial slots will be going to Alaska Airlines who plans to lead the way when it comes to service from Paine Field.

On February 11, 2019, Alaska Airlines will launch service at Paine Field, with 18 daily nonstop flights between Everett’s Paine Field and 8 destinations: Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orange County, Phoenix, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco, and San Jose. United Airlines will also be offering service from both Denver and San Francisco

Here’s what Southwest Airlines says:

Today we announced our June base which extends our bookable flight schedule through August 5, 2019. In addition to the extension, we also announced that we have entered into an agreement with Alaska Airlines to transfer our slot access to the under-construction Passenger terminal at Paine Field (PAE). The decision is based on business considerations and terms of the agreement are confidential. We’ve notified airport developers and Snohomish County leaders of our decision.

While we know many people were excited about service to PAE, we are getting ready to celebrate a big milestone in the Puget Sound area. Next year, we will celebrate 25 years of service at SEA. We’ve grown over the years to now offer more than 40 flights a day to 14 cities nonstop during peak travel periods.
