Is CLEAR becoming Overcrowded?

For those not familiar, CLEAR uses fingerprint and iris I.D. technology to expedite the document check portion of the TSA security process. CLEAR members verify their identity in the dedicated CLEAR lane and then enter either TSA PreCheck or general screening depending on their status, reducing the overall amount of time spent at security.

However, after my CLEAR experience today San Francisco Terminal 3, I wonder is CLEAR becoming overcrowded? I was flying out of Terminal 3, which is United’s hub at SFO, and there were three CLEAR kiosks, however about 10 people waiting in line to use a kiosk to have their biometrics verified.

I wouldn’t even say it was a lack of staffing, rather just that all the kiosks were in use, and it seemed to take a while for each person to get processed. Meanwhile, I glanced over at the regular TSA Pre-check line, and that had a shorter wait than the CLEAR line….
