Kroger is offering 4 fuel points this weekend.  If you have some road trips coming up, you may want to take advantage of purchasing participating gift cards to earn your 4x fuel points. Then, I use a credit card that give me a bonus for purchasing the gift cards at Kroger. Consider using a credit card that gives you extra cash back a Supermarkets when buying your gift cards at Kroger to really maximize on this deal. For example, the Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express earns you 3% U.S. supermarkets up to $6,000 per year in purchases and the Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express earns you 6% US supermarkets up to $6,000 per year in purchases. Or The Amex EveryDay® Preferred Credit Card from American Express gets you 3x points at US supermarkets on up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1x) and 2x points at US gas stations.

If you have a Kroger or affiliate near by, this is a great way to save on gas as well as maybe hit some minimum spend requirements. With 4x fuel points you only have to buy $250 in gift cards to get enough points (1,000) to save $1 on each gallon of gas for your next fill-up!

  1. Not sure the math makes sense on Visa cards with $4.95-$5.95 costs. 400 fuel points would cost you $5.95. Looks like a break even proposition with a hassle factor of going to Kroger. Best deal is when there’s no charge for the visa gift cards.
