Delta Medallion Status Update: Coronavirus

The airline industry has been one of the worst industries that have been hit by the coronavirus, as a result travel has almost completely stopped. Delta Air Lines has plans to park 600 aircrafts, and there’s no end in sight.

When it comes to airline elite status, many frequent flyers wonder what will happen as flying is reduced. I fully expect that all hotels and airlines will be extending elite status for next year when this is done. However, it’s still too early for any major announcements or plans.

  1. How about not only extending status a full year but rolling over ALL MQMs (including 2019 rollovers) to date!

  2. I actually doubt they’ll extend status, but will instead run promos with bonus elite qualifying miles/dollars or reduce requirements.

Extending status doesn’t encourage people to travel; running promos might get people to travel which is what they want.

The only exception is if one of the airline’s blinks and extends… Then I imagine they will all extend.

  3. I just made Platinum statUS in Jan 2020. I cannot fly for the foreseeable future. Will you please consider extending current status for the 2021 year.?
