The JW Marriott Cancun Resort & Spa is located in the heart of Cancun with all the other resorts in town. The property features 447 ocean-facing guestrooms and suites. It’s a Marriott Bonvoy category 6 property requiring 50,000 points for a standard free night redemption. Off peak redemptions are 40,000 points and peak nights are 60,000 points per night.

As a Marriott Platinum Bonvoy member, thanks to my status from my mattress run earlier this year, I decided to use my Suite Night Awards and was able to confirm into a one bedroom Caribbean Suite 5 days prior to arrival. I was also granted complimentary internet access due to my status and given continental breakfast each morning.

One thing to note is the hotel offers Club 91, however this isn’t offered for elite members from what I was told, and the only option was an additional nightly fee to receive access.

Bottom Line

The JW Marriott Cancun a great option if you’re looking for a luxury resort near in the heart of the Cancun hotel zone. The highlight is the hotel’s two level pool and infinity pool directly overlooking the ocean. The resort offers two hot tubs, however both were closed this visit due to the pandemic and precautions the hotel was taking.

When it comes to redeeming points, 50,000 points is a lot for this property, however depending on when you go, you may find some great paid rates especially the next several months. For our stay we opted for a paid rate under $140 a night, which I thought was a decent price for the resort.

On my visit, I was appreciative of the all the precautions the hotel was taking due to the pandemic. The Caribbean Suite was a great use of our Suite Night Awards, as I hear suite upgrades at the property can be stingy for elite members otherwise.
