Hyatt Should Allow Club Upgrades for Room Upgrades

One of the benefits of the World of Hyatt program is Milestone Rewards. This is in addition to earning tier status with World of Hyatt, and you earn a reward after every 10 nights starting at 20 nights a year.

For those who stay 20 nights, you’ll earn 2 club lounge access awards, and those who reach 30 nights earn an additional 2 awards, so Explorists and Globalists essentially earn 4 club lounge access awards each year.

For Globalists, these are essentially worthless, since you receive club lounge access as a Globalist. You can use them for an additional room if you book, but the vast majority of these awards go unused from talking to other members.

Additionally, due to the pandemic, most club lounges are closed right now and likely will be closed for most of the year. Even if you wanted to use one of these awards, you couldn’t.

As a Globalist, I have 12 Club Access Awards that will all go unused, however I wish there would be some way to get some additional value of them. My proposal to Hyatt is the following:

Hyatt Should Allow Club Upgrades for Room Upgrades

Essentially, club upgrade certificates should be rebranded as room upgrades. Similar to the confirmed suite upgrades, these would be confirmed room upgrades . These should be allowed to confirm premium room types including larger corner rooms, premium view rooms or club level rooms at time of booking.

At a minimum, World of Hyatt should make this change for 2021 due to the large number of club lounge closures, but I think it really should be a permanent change.

There’s times when I’m booking stays at busy resort properties, where a suite upgrade isn’t needed or available, but it would be nice to confirm into a premium view room at time of booking.

  1. thanks. I am a newly minted Globalist and I also was puzzled by the value of these certificates as a Globalist

  2. I would like for there to be options, similar to the 40 night choice. Perhaps 500 Hyatt points or room upgrade or a $25 Hyatt gift card (spitballing here). Even if it were for only 2021, it would be a nice substitution and acknowledgement that for 2020 and 2021 those club access awards weren’t worth the paper upon which they were printed. That said, I still really appreciate Hyatt’s responsiveness and flexibility versus, cough cough Bonvoy’s during this period.

  3. As a Diamond/Globalist for several years now, I think your idea has a lot of merit. I’m not sure how practical it is though considering how Hyatt has been exceedingly generous over the last year or so. Now there are a LOT of new elites and I don’t see Hyatt doing this when they’d have to do it for so many more people than previously. I’d like to be wrong here but I just don’t see it happening.

  4. I like the idea, but there are way too many (unused) Club upgrades sitting out there for Hyatt to let them all be converted to guaranteed room upgrades. Imagine entitling every Globalist and Explorist to 4 or 6 or more room upgrades. Ha.
