Hotel Review: Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay

The Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay has 444 guest rooms and suites and is located in Tampa Bay, near the Tampa International Airport. Additionally, the hotel offers 47 casitas including some casita suites, which give this property more of a resort feeling.

This property is a World of Hyatt Category 3 property, meaning free night awards start at 12,000 points per night. Additionally, this means that you’re able to redeem your Category 1-4 free night certificates from the credit card or as a Milestone Awards.

As I had s few Suite Upgrade awards expiring, I decided to apply one at booking and was confirmed into an Executive Suite, which is essentially two rooms connecting to each other. I’ve heard reports of Globalists getting better upgrades without using suite upgrades here, so you might want to forgo using if you’re thinking of staying here.

The hotel does have a Club Lounge that has been closed for the past two year due to pandemic. Globalists are given a $30 voucher for the hotel’s two restaurants per day.

Bottom Line

The Grand Hyatt Tampa Bay is located 5 minutes from Tampa International Airport, however their airport shuttle service is still suspended due to the pandemic. Hopefully it returns soon, as it’s really inexcusable for this hotel not to have their shuttle service back.

The hotel’s club lounge is still closed and Globalists are offered $30 a day to use in the restaurants in addition to daily breakfast.

This hotel used to be great with Globalist upgrades, however by using a suite upgrade award I was confirmed into an executive suite, which is essentially two rooms connected together. You might want to forgo using a suite upgrade and take your chances at a complimentary upgrade upon arrival.

  1. Not familiar with this property, but looked it up and they have an Executive Suite and a Casita Suite both described as “This is a standard suite.” Shouldn’t you be (have been) able to contact your Hyatt Concierge to book one of those with your suite upgrade award?

  2. I have stayed at the Grand Hyatt Tampa many times. I love it’s proximity to Clearwater Beach, and have used this hotel when coming in late from the airport or needing to leave early. I can stay at the beach for a few days, and use the Grand Hyatt as a reasonably priced airport hotel on either end of my Clearwater Beach stays. But, like you, I’ve been VERY frustrated with the lack of their airport shuttle, as well as the concierge lounge closure. (I so wanted to use my lounge awards before they expired at the end of 2021!) I also enjoy the boardwalk through their property and sitting in the chairs at the end of the dock by the casitas. In March of this year, we saw dolphins and even a manatee that swam near us while sunning in those chairs.
